2015 Walk-a-thon and Fall Festival

2015 Walk-a-thon and Fall Festival

Hello Parker Woods Montessori families! It’s that time of year again and the PTO is gearing up for our annual Walk-a-thon and Fall Festival. The Walk-a-thon will be held during school hours on October 9, 2015, and the Fall Festival will be held at the school immediately after from 4:30 – 7:30 PM. The Fall Festival will be a celebration with games, local non-profit activities, affordable food and a bouncy house! It is always a good time for the kids and we hope that you will join us this year for the fun!

All proceeds from the Walk-a-thon and Fall Festival will go toward the PTO general fund which is used for class field trips and classroom supplies (including Art, Music and Gym.) Walk-a-thon donation packets will be sent out by the end of the week.

Here is the part where YOU can help. We need volunteers for the Fall Festival! Not only do we need volunteers to set up, run games and help in the food area, we also need food donations!

Please follow this link to our event on SignUp Genius and sign up to volunteer or make a food donation:

Parker Woods Montessori, once described as ‘jewel in the rough,’ is thriving

NORTHSIDE – The recent upheaval in Cincinnati Public Schools’ magnet enrollment process demonstrated that Cincinnati parents’ desire to send their children to magnet schools is feverishly growing. One local magnet, Parker Woods Montessori in Northside, is emblematic of the continuing growth and development of the public magnet system.

Parker Woods Montessori started life as Winton Montessori, a relatively obscure local magnet located in Winton Terrace. Whitney Simmons, now the principal of Parker Woods, began her work as a vice principal at Winton Terrace in 2001. Simmons said she noticed some room for improvement, but was still impressed by what she saw at the time.

“II remember describing the place to other principals at the time as a jewel in the rough,” said Simmons. “I thought more people needed to know about it. The love and concern and care for children was like nothing I had seen in my 13 years of teaching.”

Bring In Your Box Tops!

Bring In Your Box Tops!

Parker Woods Montessori Families!

PWM gets 10 cents for each box top. It doesn’t sound like a lot but 10 cents can really add up!

Cut them and bring them to your classroom. Bring them in a baggie or tape them to the provided collection sheet. There is a special envelope hanging on the wall. (Ask your awesome teacher where to look!) Also, please don’t include Labels for Education; we don’t collect those at this time.

  • Classes that collect 250 box tops will win lollipops
  • The first class to collect 500 box tops will win a Popsicle party (1 class only)
  • The first class to collect 1000 box tops will get the grand prize of ice cream treats and a teacher wish list item (1 class only)

Check your classroom’s progress on the PTC bulletin board

Contest runs from September thru November, but the envelope will stay there all year. Look for another contest and a cafeteria shop coming soon!

4th-6th Grade Reading List

4th-6th Grade Reading List

All of the students in the 4-6th grade classrooms will be reading a common set of books this year.

These books are required by the district, but the district has not set aside money for the school to purchase these books. The Cincinnati Public Library does have some copies available, but the supply is limited to share between all of our local schools.

Please take a look at this list, and contact the Parker Woods Montessori if you have any copies you would like to donate.
