Abby Stayton

Where were you born/raised?
Villa Hills, KY.

Where did you go to school?
I went to high school at Notre Dame Academy in Northern Kentucky. I attended the University of Kentucky for two years before transferring to Xavier University for their Montessori Education program.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I started as a substitute teacher for a year before becoming a teacher at Parker Woods Montessori.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I first heard about Montessori through a family friend and researched more into it and fell in love with the philosophy.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
Working with an amazing teaching staff and watching children excel in learning through Montessori education!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I love to spend time with my family and friends.

Where did you go to school?
Xavier (Graduate) M. Ed Education Montessori 6-9 certified.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
Began as an IPP at North Avondale (while at Xavier) Started at PWM in 2011.

How did you learn about Montessori?
Attended Montessori as a child. North Avondale and Sands.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
Caring community of teachers and families.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Spend time outside, travel, spend time with friends and family.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
Graduated with Elementary/Special Ed degree from NKU.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I was an individual aid for a student at Sands Montessori.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I love the community environment here.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Outside of school I sing in a band and work in a hairsalon as a managing cosmetologist.

Ohio, Clermont County on a Dairy Farm.

Where did you go to school?
Clermont Northeastern High School. Morehead State University and Xavier University.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
Always wanted to be a teacher as long as I can remember.

How did you learn about Montessori?
In college.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
Staff, students, parents.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Fish, ride horses.

Life is good!

 

Amanda Hendricks

Where did you go to school?
Walnut Hills High School, Xavier University, University of Vermont (through CVMI).

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I wanted to work with children, so I switched programs to Education.

How did you learn about Montessori?
My mother encouraged me to observe in my brother’s classroom at NAM. I fell in love with Montessori that day.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I love the unique gifts and diversity that our students, familes and staff bring to our school.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, hiking, practicing yoga, reading, and any other fun activities.

 

Amber Lovett

Woodward High School. Central State University.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I had an interest in teaching as a child and followed my interest.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I was a substitute in the Montessori classroom.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
The community feel of the staff and classrooms.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Watch TV, shop, camp, travel.

 

Ann Marie Kafoure

Indianapolis IN.

Where did you go to school?
Ladywood High School Indianapolis. Xavier University.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I always wanted to be a child psychologist, and went to school for that then saw what Montessori was and that was the beginning.

How did you learn about Montessori?
In 1970, at XU I was introduced to an “innovative” teaching method.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
My team of Educators, familes, and my students.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Spend time with my family, cooking, gardening, antiquing, rock collecting.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
Followed my mother’s footsteps.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I grew up in a Montessori school.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
The strong staff community.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Spend time with my family and dogs, cook, and practice yoga.

 

Beth Schlick

Born and raised in Lambertville, Michigan – near Toledo.

Where did you go to school?
Xavier University.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
Went through the Montessori department at XU.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I went to a Montessori preschool and kindergarten and loved it.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I love my team of teachers and paraprofessionals and the children – diversity and excitement for learning.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I love to spend time with my children and husband. I also enjoy spending time with my parents and sisters in Michigan at the lake.

 

Erica Mulvey

Where were you born/raised?
Born and raised right here in Cincinnati!

Where did you go to school?
I went to Summit Country Day from preschool all the way through high school; Ohio University for undergrad; University of KY for a Masters in Social Work and Xavier U for a Masters in Education.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I was working as a social worker and needed a change. I wanted to continue working with children so I went back to school to become a teacher.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I went to a Montessori school.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
Watching the children grow from 3-6 all the way to 9-12.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Spend time with my family.

 

Heather Bailey

Independence, KY.

Where did you go to school?
Undergraduate: Northern Ky Univ. Graduate: Xavier Univ.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I was inspired by a 1st grade teacher.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I had friends that had attended preschool as children.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
Awesome co-workers and hard-working students.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Volunteer for local animal rescue organizations, sew and craft and spend time with my niece and nephews.

 

Joseph “Cory” Held

Where were you born/raised?
I was born in Delaware, Ohio which is 15 minutes north of Columbus.

Where did you go to school?
I graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Go Bearcats!

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I started to work with students after I graduated high school in a transition to college program thanks to a teacher that inspired me.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I first learned about it in college and have always loved the idea of it!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I am a huge sports fan and the Bearcats and Buckeyes are by far my favorite teams.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am so excited for my first year at Parker Woods Montessori!

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
University of Cincinnati – BS in Elementary Ed. NKU – Master’s Special Ed. Xavier Montessori Certification.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I attended an elementary school modelled after Montessori.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I like the children. I like the forest + garden opportunities for outdoor education.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I love being in the forest. I am currently learning about Lepidoptera (caterpillars, butterflies + moths) and enjoy photographing them.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I have been a parent at PWM for 14 years.

 

Linda Biehle

Where were you born/raised?
I was born in Cincinnati. In the third grade I moved to Delhi and lived there until 2001, when I moved to Florence, KY.

Where did you go to school?
Northern Kentucy University.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
It was something I wanted to do from first grade.

How did you learn about Montessori?
Through CPS when I transferred from Boone County Schools.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
Staff, students, and parents. I love the community that is Parker Woods Montessori.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Camping, hiking, swimming, reading and letter boxing. I also am a Girl Scout caddette leader and teach 2nd grade religion at my church.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I have 7 wonderful grandsons.

 

Linda Bockstiegel

Fairfield, Ohio

Where did you go to school?
Fairfield HS, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, Xavier University.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
When my youngest went to kindergarten, I decided to return to college to become a teacher — which is what I originally intended to do — because I hate housework and cooking!!

How did you learn about Montessori?
When I was riffed the district invited me to train and retain a new teaching position.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
How well the staff works together as a team!!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Attend Reds games, play euchre online and shop.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am so glad to have all the support from our PTO since we’ve moved to the new building.

 

Liz Joseph

Reading Specialist

Where were you born/raised?
I was born in Newton NJ and lived in a small town in northern NJ until I moved away for college.

Where did you go to school?
Port Jervis High School, then Eastern University in PA and later Notre Dame College.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I taught preschool, then when I had my own children I decided to be a stay at home mom. While home I went back to school and got certified in special education and reading.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I got a job last year at Gamble Montessori and experienced Montessori for the first time.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I love the people here. Our staff and students are the best!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I love spending time with my family and I am very active in my kids’ school and our community.

 

Megan E. McGraw

Cincinnati, OH.

Where did you go to school?
Seton High School, Bachelors-University of Cincinnati; Masters – Xavier University.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I was able to substitute teach while living out of town in North Carolina. When I returned to Cincinnati, I went back to school and got my Master’s Degree in Education.

How did you learn about Montessori?
My nephews attended a Montessori School.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I love the staff at Parker Woods. Everyone is so supportive and it is a great team to work with.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I love to spend time with my family and friends. I also love dance, tennis, and art.

 

Melissa Ridley

Where were you born/raised?
I was born and raised in Toledo, OH. I moved to Cincinnati in 1990 to attend Xavier and stayed ever since!

Where did you go to school?
I went to Gesu for grade school and Notre Dame Academy in Toledo and then to XU for college.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
Graduated with a BS in Montessori Education from XU in 1994; Masters in Special Ed in 1998 from XU and Admin license in 2012 from XU.

How did you learn about Montessori?
Beth Bronsil – When I visited XU while in high school.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
The sense of community and the extremely hard-working staff I work with everyday!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I love to spend time with my family – my husband Mike and my son Sean. I love to shop and love being crafty!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I believe in meeting children where they are! I believe that we must respect development of the child!

 

Penny Greenler

Where were you born/raised?
Born in England – grew up in New Foundland and Montral, Canada.

Where did you go to school?
McGill University – Montreal, UCLA, Xavier University of Vermont.

How did you learn about Montessori?
When my children were young I sent them to Montessori school because I had read about it in college psychology class.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
The brand new building and my student exuberance about learning.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
Kayaking, gardening, working out, walking, fixing up my house.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Every year has been different and exciting, especially in my Montessori classroom.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I started my professional life as a concert musician and kind of backed into teaching.

Through teaching at a Montessori school.

I like the collaborative staff and awesome students.

Tri-Athlons/skiing and of course my passion is playing the harp professionally.

Long Island, New York born and raised in/near the Ross OH area.

Ross Public Schools – Saint Mary’s Montessori (1-6) / Mount St Joseph College Grand Canyon Univ and Xavier.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I began college as an art major and changed to Elementary Education my sophmore year.

How did you learn about Montessori?
I was a Montessori student and when my daughter began school it was a natural choice to continue Montessori.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I like the adults I work with and being with my students’s families.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I like to scrapbook, create and write with art journals, collage, walk and read too.

Surprises are fun to plan so one never knows when they receive a surprise from me 🙂

Where were you born/raised?
I was born in Dayton and raised in Louisville, KY and Cincinnati, OH.

Where did you go to school?
I attended Walnut Hills and graduated from Indian Hill. I received my Bachelor’s at UC and my Master’s at Miami.

How did you become a teacher/paraprofessional?
I was interested in science and math and Speech Pathology was a good mix.

How did you learn about Montessori?
When I started working at Winton Montessori.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
I love the students’, the teachers’, and the administration’s caring attitudes.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of school?
I love cooking, gardening, taking long walks, and swimming at the beach.

I’ve always loved working with children even while working in corporate America, I decided to follow my dream and become a Montessori teacher.

From a church youth director who was a Montessori teacher at the former Lincolcn Heights Montessori.

What do you like most about Parker Woods Montessori?
The hardworking and supportive members of my 3-6 team. The many creative gifts of the students at our school.
